The issue of the different Bible versions itself is very simple, although there are those that would make it seem that only the learned can know the truth about God's words. They throw the Greek at us trying to make it so that we think they are the only ones that can know. The issue is not how the Greek is translated, nor the Hebrew, what was taught at a theology school, what your pastor thinks, what you think, or what I think. The simplicity of it is:
Did God promise to preserve his words and if so, where are they? In what one book are they found?
God did promise to preserve them, all of them, in many places in the Bible. However, there are those that do indeed twist God's words to meet their belief. Some try to argue that God did not promise to preserve them in one book, but the scripture is plain about that proving they can and have to be indeed be found in one book. Many of the non-believers (the first camp spoken of above) say that all the versions contain God's word. They are not truthful when saying that though. What they say when you confront them about it is that God's words can be found in all versions. I have no arguement with that. God's words are found in just about every version. However, they know and will state that not *all of his words* are found in all the versions. Do you see how subtle they are about it? (Genesis 3:1)
Of late there I've been an onslaught of material published concerning the issue of which translation is best, or which one is the inerrant word of God. Of the two camps (one camp supporting modern translations, the other supporting the King James Bible), two things are abundantly clear. First, the view in favor of modern translations bases its view solely on the wisdom, intellect, and textual findings of man. Second, the view supporting the King James Bible does so not only by bringing to light factual evidence which underlines the majority of manuscripts, but also establishes its points on a scriptural basis. "The King James Contraversy: A Biblical View" The author wishes to remain anonymous.
Surely the new versions contain a lot of God's words, but they are not the word of God which is the issue. Surely one can get saved from the new versions, but that is not the issue. When words are changed to something else other than what God directed them to be changed to, they are no longer the words of God.
I studied the issue in depth for a number of years and there is no doubt that the King James Version of 1611 is the infallible words of God and all others simply counterfeits. Since God promised to preserve his words there can only be one correct English translation. By process of elimination that is the King James Bible.
The problem is normally just a matter of unbelief in what the scriptures say. Some get mislead through by pastors, Bible school doctrine, Bible teachers (normally taught at a school of some type), but ultimately Satan. As mentioned already some pastors and teachers try the Greek approach to make it appear they know more than you and basically baffle you with a bunch of Greek (which they probably don't know all that well) and furthermore they might only know the modern Greek and not what the King James Bible was written in. It is a crying shame when a pastor takes the learning he received in Bible school over what the Bible says. Then you have those that would have you believe that God "really meant" that he would preserve the essence of his words and not his words. The bottom line though still boils down to unbelief. What did God say! Please do not believe this because I say so, but read the scripture for yourself.
You can start right here:
Promised: Perfect, Pure, Preserved, Infallible
The cure is believe what God promised. Having trouble with that? Read and re-read the promises praying of course. Also pray that God help you with your unbelief.
Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. Mark 9:23-24
